Review
If this is indeed the final installment, this was the most lackluster of the trilogy. There was no inventiveness or sense of urgency in Robert McCall’s killings unlike the previous two films. The flashbacks were time killers if nothing else. Dakota Fanning played her role, but her role as a CIA officer/desk jockey was overall mediocre in the whole scheme of the movie. If they had written her as a highly competent and skilled CIA officer working with McCall, it would have been a much more interesting film.
True, the cinematography was quite good. But having excellent cinematography does not make a great film.
Much of the film is spoken in Italian which I didn’t personally mind, but I can see others finding it annoying reading subtitles through much of the film.
Verdict (Out of 10)
Compared to the previous two films, this third installment was lackluster and underwhelming. The plot — and McCall’s killings — were overall very derivative. The movie gets a 7 out of 10. Not a terrible film but watchable.
