Wrong Turn (2021) was another underwhelming requel to say the least. It wasn’t because it was “woke,” as some defined it. The movie had too much filler and did not bring the campy horror it much needed. The original Wrong Turn (2003) was significantly better and much more enjoyable as campy horror than the 2021 remake.
Wrong Turn (2024) does give Fringe Fiction some optimism, but we’ll keep our reservations for now.
What Wrong Turn: The Requel needs:
- The return of Three Finger, Saw Tooth and One Eye. As much as Wrong Turn (2021) tried to change the film, it did it with a disappointing thud with the implementation of a secluded society in the forest.
- A strong female lead. Eliza Dushku played her part well in Wrong Turn (2003), and she had the physicality to play the part. Melissa Barrera of Scream (2022) could fill that role well. Eliza Dushku can reintroduce herself as a survivor kind of reminiscent of Scream (2022) with Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell).
- Bring back the inventive and brutal traps and kills. Wrong Turn (2021) had the traps almost right, but the killings were a bit predictable. The inclusion of the secluded society didn’t particularly help things either.
- On the topic of Three Fingers and crew, perhaps a crossover with The Hills Have Eyes. Both have similar “families,” and they could easily crossover into each other’s films.
These are some of Fringe Fiction’s thoughts on a requel for Wrong Turn.
