Disease X is the next potential pandemic threat, and several facilities are in preparation and researching this threat. As long as the research is contained, there is no issue. However, through foreign threats and their own research and funding, things may not go well with even the most prepared facilities in the United Kingdom and elsewhere.

COVID-19 and its variants still remain a potent threat. Many people are still getting infected with COVID-19 variants, and Fringe Fiction has known at least six associates who have been infected with COVID-19 variants. Fringe Fiction believes that some future virus with more potency may be the next potential threat. Will it be research that has been gone bad and been released? Perhaps not. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) does seem prepared with its constant updates and newsletters. Perhaps the next threat could be zoological and have been released by nature. Potentially, a bacterial infection could also be the next threat. The Black Death from Yersinia pestis in the mid-1300s demonstrated the devastation of a bacterial pandemic that ravaged Europe. At this point of early 2024, with wars escalating internationally and various protests as well, attention and resources have been diverted elsewhere. No longer are people solely focused on COVID. When will another pandemic catch us? Perhaps when we least expect it from an unexpected source.
