Artificial intelligence (AI) has already enveloped a business that it has forced the business to be on the brink of closing. It appears that Sports Illustrated (SI) has been replaced by AI as major portions of the staff has been laid off. This is a brave new world, and employment may be a thing of past as AI consumes jobs. Layoffs in the technology industry may indicate that artificial intelligence has taken over some parts of the industry — with AI being fully capable of programming although with some minute errors here and there. AI is capable of introducing programming languages such as SQL and Python to newcomers in the computer programming field. The current employment landscape may not look good now and into the future.
With its capability to write, program, art and other abilities, artificial intelligence, even in its infancy, may lend itself to the financial collapse of human lives. Microsoft Bing, in fact, often shows what artificial intelligence can artistically generate daily. Furthermore, it appears that Microsoft has extended their partnership with OpenAI. With its overly optimistic statement of democratizing the AI platform, that AI platform can wreak financial destruction as it consumes jobs. Unlike previous technological revolutions, there are very few alternatives that AI can’t take over. The food industry (at least on the restaurant and food truck side) and the manufacturing industry (at least a few slices of it) may be safe. However, the Information Technology (IT) industry (ironically) and the writing industry (as part of a corporation like social media) may not be.
We are still early in 2024 with elections coming into play. The world remains unsettled, and a collapse may be waiting to happen at any moment. Perhaps a pandemic is not needed to stall humanity this time around. Perhaps artificial intelligence can do that for us.
