One of the underrated creature features/horror movie series in Fringe Fiction’s opinion. To eradicate “Strickler’s disease” from the spread of cockroaches in New York City, a Judas breed of a termite and a mantis is introduced into the cockroach population. Sometimes the cure is worse than the disease. The Judas breed evolves into something much worse.
Still an underrated yet solid movie (although it has not aged well), this is what Fringe Fiction thinks should be in the requel:
- The movie should be set in New York City as it is today. The setting should also introduce the migrant community.
- The lead should be a scientist, teacher or social worker. If they are a teacher or social worker, they can be assisting the migrant and homeless community. It can lend a humanistic element.
- With the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) involvement, COVID may be one of the causes of the mutation since COVID enters the sewage water system. Maybe it gives the Mimics some immunity as well.
- The use of cellular phones and surveillance systems of the Mimics as they traverse the sewage and subway lines. Rapid shots in the dark as they crawl about would make them creepier.
- Bring back animatronics for creature features like this movie. With the advancements in technology, this should be feasible and quite possibly cheaper than 3-D animation.
- Noise should play a factor in this film like the original. The clicking should continue.
These are some ideas that Fringe Fiction has for a requel.
Have you seen this film? Do you think this film deserves a requel? Do you have any other suggestions?
