In Fringe Fiction’s opinion, Urban Legends: Final Cut wasn’t an overall bad film, given that teen screams were coming close to an end at that point. Teenage slasher movies were becoming less of a thing in much the same way that superhero movies are becoming less of a thing nowadays.
As a movie, Urban Legends can go in many different directions, even an artsy one, like The Lords of Salem. However, Fringe Fiction agrees that that teen slasher may be the way to go for a requel, laced with a dash of nostalgia.
What Urban Legends: The Requel Needs:
- Social media has to play into this movie. Perhaps social media can be used as a device in one of the protagonist’s classes in a multimedia course.
- The survivor Amy Mayfield from Urban Legends: Final Cut reprises her role as a survivor.
- The lead should be female should be in college like with the previous movies. She should be an outsider of sorts with a close knit group of friends.
- One of the urban legends could be Red Room. Perhaps inclusion of urban legends from around the world. This could be difficult to convey, particularly to an American audience.
- The killer should be masked. A fencing mask is a good idea as a retread, but something more modern should be in store.
These are a few ideas that Fringe Fiction has for a requel of the Urban Legends franchise. Although the trilogy didn’t fare well in the movie theaters, a requel may be what is needed to jump start the movie all over again.
