House of Slaughter: Pen and Ink #1 Comic Book Review

House of Slaughter: Pen and Ink

Plot

We are introduced to Aaron as a Black Mask and the House of Slaughter. Aaron is in competition with his classmates at the House of Slaughter as to who can slay the monster and in preparation for their first Hunt. Aaron almost prevails, but the competition ends abruptly and he loses to the White Masks. Aaron’s mother Jessica is introduced as well as Jace Boucher, his roommate.

Review

Fringe Fiction loves the simple black-and-white drawings. Sometimes less is more, and this comic is the definition of it. Below the comic book panels, there is commentary by artist Chris Shehan, and you get to peer behind the veil of the comic with his ideas regarding art direction and interactions between the characters. A tasteful and somewhat satisfying introduction to the House of Slaughter.

Verdict (Out of 10)

Fringe Fiction gives this comic a 7.5 out of 10. So far only glimpses in the first issue and superficial interactions between the characters right now. Also, some more description as to the background of the House of Slaughter within the few pages would have helped — between the classmates or the mothers.
