X-Men ’97 No. 1 Comic Book Review [SPOILERS]

Plot

Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Wolverine, Rogue, Gambit, Bishop and Beast are without their mentor, Charles Xavier, after Charles was fatally attacked by Peter Gyrich. After the X-Men train at the X-Mansion in a scenario involving Magento, they find out that Dazzler has been abducted the Friends of Humanity, a bigot group, and can longer perform at the Charles Xavier Memorial Concert. The X-Men seek out to rescue Dazzler from the Friends of Humanity and make short work of them. Meanwhile, Jean wants to reveal to Scott that she is pregnant and ultimately does. As the comic comes to a close, the Nasty Boys attack Dazzler’s concert, but there’s a bigger game afoot for the villains, something much bigger.

Review

Overall, a very good story, particularly for those who followed the older X-Men comic book (and television) series. Much of the tone and art has stayed true to form. The story wasn’t too difficult to follow, despite the shifting stories. However, the introduction of the Nasty Boys is definitely new. Hopefully, the villains will be more defined in later issues.

Verdict (Out of 10)

Fringe Fiction gives this comic a 7.6 out of 10. Very solid introduction.
