Fringe Fiction Goes to the Movies #fringefiction #frifi #movies #moviereview #thunderbolts* #theministryofungentlemanlywarfare #novocaine #socialmedia #philadelphiaeagles #dallascowboys

Last Thursday, Philadelphia Eagles won their first game of the 2025-2026 season over the Dallas Cowboys 24-20 but not without penalties and fines. It was a relatively quiet game on both sides despite the score. Miles Sanders, the former Philadelphia Eagle, was quite productive in the game and seemed to be a spark for the Cowboys.

Enough of a recap of Thursday’s game, Fringe Fiction did watch three movies this weekend: Thunderbolts*, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and Novocaine.

Thunderbolts* doesn’t quite match up to the original Marvel formula over the previous films. Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra was one intriguing villain of sorts, more of a political chess player than a formulaic bad guy and benefited the Thunderbolts in the end. Fringe Fiction won’t spoil the ending. Although the movie did include some fantastic action sequences, this movie played out more of a drama in Fringe Fiction’s opinion. Worth a watch but don’t expect the same Marvel formula.

Shades of Inglorious Basterds but a great action movie in its own right. Henry Cavill and his crew perform two operations in this movie. The second mission is perhaps the most fantastic where they raid a Nazi camp through coordinated attacks. Great acting and humor all around, and the fun comes through many scenes. Highly recommended — even for a few more watches.

Novocaine was one intriguing film as well. Fringe Fiction was kind of expecting a quasi-John Wick film laced with humor. However, we did get the humor but much less John Wick. The overall plot of the film is Novocaine stopping three bank robbers and the pacing is erratic. A few parts of the film don’t make sense, but it may be reference to other films. Worth a watch for Jack Quaid and Jacob Batalon. They would make a solid comedic duo in future films in Fringe Fiction’s opinion.
