Fringe Fiction Goes to the Movies #fringefiction #frifi #movies #moviereviews #acid #28yearslater #thehungergames #balladofsongbirdsandsnakes #socialmedia

With fall coming upon us and football season as well, Fringe Fiction did watch three movies this weekend: Acid, 28 Years Later and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

Acid is an intriguing family drama set amidst of a possibility — a catastrophic weather event involving acid rain. However, the United States and the EU nations have not gotten to the point of pollution of the skies. It has impacted areas of southern China. Regarding the movie, there are some fallacies in the film. It doesn’t quite have an impact until the final scene where the father attempts to rescue her daughter in one last ditch attempt. Overall, worth a watch but not much more.

28 Years Later has a different pacing than the first two films. Whereas the other two films were more action-horror, this didn’t quite feel the same in Fringe Fiction’s opinion. It was more of a coming-of-age film. It involved Spike and his father hunting down evolved zombies and capturing his first kill. The only thing that Fringe Fiction is questioning is the use of guns or lack thereof 28 years later and the manufacturing of arrows. There was no clear explanation of both. Overall, this movie is worth a watch, but Fringe Fiction prefers the first two films 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later. In terms of action-horror, 28 Weeks Later has to be one of the better ones — at least for the first half of the film.

Lastly comes in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. This film is a great prequel to The Hunger Games movie series as it sets the Hunger games setting in terms of affiliations and politics. Coriolanus Snow, who is to become President Snow of the future Hunger Games, plays out his role and maneuverings to success in this film. From rescuing his ordained tribute, Lucy Gray Baird, to outmaneuvering Dr. Gaul, Tom Blyth played his role brilliantly. Definitely worth a watch or two and extends The Hunger Games quite successfully in Fringe Fiction’s opinion. Fringe Fiction wouldn’t mind a sequel to this as Corionalus Snow’s rise to power and the implementation of successive Hunger Games.
