Over this weekend, Fringe Fiction got several doses of Jason Statham over this weekend with A Working Man, The Beekeeper, Wrath of Man and Wild Card. This is our take on his films which he plays similar characters but in different environments (somewhat) and one-offs (at least Fringe Fiction is aware of). So let’s begin!
Jason Statham stars as Levon Cade, an ex-Royal Marine commando, and his mission in this film is to rescue his foreman’s daughter from Russian human traffickers. David Harbour plays brilliantly as Gunny Lafferty, a former Marine operator. Overall, in Statham’s collection of films, Fringe Fiction ranks this one quite high, particularly the ending sequences, and worth a watch or two. Fringe Fiction loves the fact that he is deploying modern technology in his arsenal.
The Beekeeper has to be one of Fringe Fiction’s favorite action films starring Jason Statham. The actors in this film are brilliant all around, including Josh Hutcherson, Jemma Redgrave and Jeremy Irons. The topic of phishing and exploiting people is a current topic, and several Youtube videos show some people countering these scammers. Jason Statham plays Adam Clay, and his ability to maneuver in and out of precarious situations is remarkable. Well worth several watches.
Decent film but a bit slower paced for a Jason Statham film in Fringe Fiction’s opinion. In this film, Jason Statham stars as Nick Wild and gets into some trouble helping friends and acquaintances in Las Vegas. Some good action sequences in the beginning and toward the end, but in Fringe Fiction’s opinion, not one of Jason Statham’s best but is definitely watchable.
In Wrath of Man, Jason Statham stars as Patrick Hill who is on the hunt for who killed his son Dougie. Patrick downplays his skill sets in order to gain trust into the company of Fortico and then things escalate from there. All in all, a particularly interesting film in which all players are not who they apparently seem and some are playing the endgame rather than the other parts. Fringe Fiction won’t spoil it for you here. This movie is definitely worth a watch as it has action and intrigue (although it is quite easy to place who the villain of the story is. The ride to get there is the enjoyable however.)
