Over this cold weekend in Philadelphia, Fringe Fiction did get to watch a couple of movies: Else and Tarot. Else and Tarot are both worth a watch, but Else is the more interesting fare.
Else is an interesting foreign movie where inanimate objects is merging with humanity. It is not quite body horror, and it does lean toward the artistic side, particularly toward the finale. Interestingly, it is a story about romance and ultimately evolution. It does get trippy near the finale, but Fringe Fiction won’t spoil it for you here. This movie is worth a watch, but it may not be for everyone.
Tarot is about a group of teenagers finding a deck of tarot cards and performing each of their individual readings. Tarot is a palatable and relatively tame teenage horror film. The story overall is predictable and the monsters aren’t quite as ingenious as one of the advertisements announce them as. Fringe Fiction would recommend this movie for tweenage to teenage crowd. For others, it may be a pass.
