Then the reboot came in 2006.

When a Stranger Calls definitely deserves a hard-hitting requel. Since the advent of better cellular phones and the use of cameras and other security devices, these will need to be implemented in the sequel. Actually, introduction in Scream (2022) is a good starting point for the requel (up until 0:54 in the trailer below).

When a Stranger Calls is terror wrapped up in a female lead bound by children that they are babysitting. The requel should follow a similar formula with the inclusion of modern technology.

Here’s what When a Stranger Calls: The Requel Needs:

• A female lead, preferably able to do some stunts.
• Camilla Belle can do a cameo as a survivor. Since she has been broken by the Stranger, her babbling can be part of a bigger puzzle throughout the movie.
• An intimidating Stranger. Perhaps even Tommy Flanagan at least reprise the physical role.
• In the requel, the children who Jill Johnson have babysat have become teenagers themselves. They can have starring roles in the requel as they face the Stranger.
• Use of the Ring camera or Amazon Blink through the cell phone of the babysitter. At some point, the security devices go black or at least generate snow on the cameras, making it difficult to detect where the Stranger is in the house.
• Use of a physical panic room in the house…and its ultimate failure. The babysitter and the children retreat to a panic room, but it is not as safe it appears as the Stranger looks on. 

These are a few ideas that Fringe Fiction has thought for a proper requel to When a Stranger Calls. This movie is a fan favorite, but it does have some good ideas.
