With such a busy day, Fringe Fiction did catch a few movies: Betrayal, Gladiator 2 and Food Inc. 2.
We will begin with the documentary Food Inc. 2. It actually copies much of the same or similar information from Food Inc. It did give perspective of the labor and processing. However, there wasn’t much insight on how to change the food system. Additionally, the film seemed to lack direction on its message in Fringe Fiction’s opinion. It’s worth a watch, but Food Inc. had more direction.
Betrayal was a family drama/thriller of sorts. The acting was good although not spectacular, and the story was plodding and towards the end, predictable. Watchable but perhaps only once.
Gladiator 2 was pretty good compared to the other two movies. The movie was primarily carried by their two leads, Denzel Washington as Macrinus and Paul Mescal as Lucius. When the screen time allowed it, the two emperors, Emperor Geta and Emperor Caracalla played by Joseph Quinn and Fred Hechinger respectively, captured the show in Fringe Fiction’s opinion. Of the two, Joseph Quinn did a better job of capturing a Roman Emperor’s spirit. Definitely worth a watch when compared to most of today’s fare.
