Fringe Fiction has been through a lot. We survived the COVID-19 pandemic although it may appear that another course of lockdowns may occur. We will have to rely on the government authorities and their judgement, however flawed it may be. We were laid off before the pandemic and had to look deep to find where we belong in the greater scheme of things. We have returned to Fringe Fiction and vow to make it stronger and better than ever. Finally, comes family which always come first and foremost. Even in the bleakest of times, family is the support system that one needs.
Some New Year’s resolutions:
- Podcasting. We have the equipment (mostly) and now we just need to get started. Audio first…and then video? We don’t quite know yet.
- Conventions. The first one that planned for attendance is Zolocon in Warminster, Pennsylvania. We hope to see you out there. We will be also participating in other conventions as well — and some of the lesser known ones started by independents.
- Magazine. That idea was short-circuited by the COVID-19 pandemic…so perhaps go digital? We were thinking as a supplement to the podcasts and to the site. Kind of an off-the-books thing as it may. No pun intended.
- Short stories. Not as flashy nowadays with the accessibility to the internet, podcasts and other traffic. But sometimes we need some short fiction to end the day.
- Introduce board games. Not as themselves but much more their creators. It takes some effort and some ingenuity to create board games. The creators need to be recognized.
- Introduce cooking. Not as a cooking show but much more the science behind cooking with whatever ingredients that may be — and the mysteries behind fermentation. Bacteria is not as bad as the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) deem them to be. Some recipes (and experiments) may be introduced.
- Introduce independent video games — and their creators. With the current run of independent video games, that may be a bad idea. But here’s to optimism that the video gaming industry can turn itself around in 2024 and beyond.
If you have other ideas or suggestions for Fringe Fiction as we move into 2024, please feel free to comment below. Again, we can’t appreciate our loyal followers through our hiatus. We look forward to seeing you!
