Over this sunny weekend in Philadelphia, Fringe Fiction did watch three movies: Megan 2.0, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina and Elevation. We do intend on watching movies tomorrow and give our concise reviews of those movies as well. Fringe Fiction hopes that everyone is enjoying their Labor Day weekend with family and friends.
Megan 2.0 definitely doesn’t have the same feel as the original Megan. This one has more of a 90s sci-fi action vibe to it. Megan’s counterpart AMELIA is an interesting choice as a militarized version of M3GAN. There are some elements of the Terminator movies as both androids battle against each other. The fight scenes and action sequences overall. This movie as well is clearly divided into multiple sections as M3GAN continues upgrading against AMELIA. Overall, a move well-worth watching and recommended.
From the World of John Wick: Ballerina in Fringe Fiction’s opinion doesn’t quite hold a candle to the John Wick series quite yet. Eve Macarro, the main protagonist, has her own unique skill sets and displays them wonderfully (for the most part) in her action sequences. In Fringe Fiction’s opinion though, her enemies aren’t quite the caliber of John Wick’s. However, one thing must be said: the final fight scene is worth watching in this movie alone. Fringe Fiction won’t spoil it for you. It’s worth a watch, but the pacing and some of the fight sequences aren’t quite John Wick standards.
Elevation does have its moments, but it faltered in many ways. In this trailer even, Hunter has a lung disease only obtained from limited equipment from Boulder, Colorado. That being said, the doctor Nina or Will, the father himself, should and would be making the equipment and/or drugs themselves in Fringe Fiction’s opinion. (At least that’s what Fringe Fiction would suggest doing.) There are some other baffling elements in this film as well, but we’ll leave it for another time. This sci-fi road trip of a film was mostly average and didn’t push the monster genre. Worth a watch if you’re a fan of Anthony Mackie or Morena Baccarin.
